Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans Endorses Ram Villivalam for State Senate

CHICAGO (Mayfair) – Today, Democratic Candidate for State Senate Ram Villivalam (IL-8) announced the endorsement of the Illinois Association for Retired Americans.

“As an organizer for SEIU, Ram has long fought to protect programs vital to the health and economic security of older Americans,” said Barbara Franklin, President of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans (IARA). “Ram has advocated for seniors in Illinois’ home care program and in nursing homes as well as workers who provide these services. He understands the importance of fighting for social and economic justice for all citizens. He has been and will continue to be a progressive champion. On behalf of our 257,000 members across Illinois, I am proud to share our endorsement of Ram Villivalam for State Senate.”

Ram Villivalam most recently worked as Legislative Coordinator for SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana, advocating on behalf of more than 90,000 Home Care Providers, Child Care Providers, Nursing Home Workers, Hospital Workers, and the people they provide care for. Previously, Ram served as the Outreach Director for U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, working with manufacturing organizations, unions, immigration groups, and community colleges on more than 20 policy areas. Ram serves on the Board of the Gun Violence Prevention PAC and as President of the Indo-American Democratic Organization. A child of immigrants, Ram was born and raised on the Northwest side and attended Chicago Public Schools throughout his childhood.
