United Auto Workers Illinois Endorses Ram Villivalam for State Senate

McInroy cites Villivalam’s commitment to protecting the working class

Chicago (Mayfair) - Today, Democratic Candidate for State Senate and workers’ rights advocate Ram Villivalam (IL-8) announced the endorsement of the United Auto Workers Illinois.

“UAW Illinois is proud to endorse Ram Villivalam to represent the 8th State Senate District because we are confident he will fight for the economic security of our members and the citizens of his district,” said UAW Region 4 Director Ron McInroy. “He will stand up to the attacks on the labor movement by Gov. Bruce Rauner. He will fight to help those affected by unfair trade deals who see corporate profits soar while their jobs are sent overseas. And he will continue his work anchored in the belief that unions are the solution to a rigged economy.”

"I am honored to have the endorsement of UAW Illinois on behalf of its 52,000 members and retirees," said Democratic Candidate for State Senate Ram Villivalam. "I am committed to protecting and expanding the rights of working people, which includes a living wage, safe working conditions, and their ability to organize. We must also invest in and support businesses that keep jobs here in our community as that is how our economy will continue grow."

Villivalam has strong backing from labor groups, having already received the endorsements of SEIU Illinois State Council, the Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 881, and National Nurses United.

He has also been endorsed by U.S Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Fmr. Gubernatorial Candidate & Alderman Ameya Pawar, State Senator Laura Murphy, State Representative Theresa Mah, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Commissioner Josina Morita, Reclaim Chicago, Equality Illinois PAC, and the Indo-American Democratic Organization.
